Advising an EPC Contractor on the Upgrade of a Strategic 205km Road Corridor Under a Public-Private Infrastructure Concession in Zambia
We represented an EPC contractor engaged in the upgrading of a key 205km road corridor in Zambia into a dual carriageway. Our role involved reviewing the EPC contract under Zambian law, with a focus on risk allocation and compliance. The transaction is part of a larger public-private infrastructure concession financed by a regional funder. It supports Zambia’s strategy to enhance trade corridors and mining logistics, especially in the country’s copper-rich regions. The project is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel time, and unlock regional trade and investment opportunities.
We advised a private sector consortium on a public-private partnership for the design, financing, and operation of a 371km road in Zambia’s Western Corridor. Our scope included the drafting and negotiation of the concession, EPC, and O&M agreements; joint development and shareholder agreements; project structuring; and regulatory compliance. The road serves as a vital trade route linking Zambia to regional ports and markets, supporting regional integration and economic development.
